Music recording sessions are often perceived as glamorous, but they actually involve considerable amount work and planning. Those involved must find the right recording studio, set a budget and a schedule, and find the right personnel, including engineers, producer and specialized musicians, to get the sound they want.
Audio mixing is done in studios as part of creating an album or single. The mixing stage often follows a multitrack recording. A mixing engineer occupies a space between artist and scientist, using their skill at assessing the harmonic structure of sound to enable them to fashion highly appealing timbres. This is where the record takes it's truest form.
